The Lifeline Program is a federally funded program that provides a monthly discount on phone or internet service to eligible households. Qualification is determined based on income or your participation in several federal assistance programs, and you must recertify every year. You must qualify through the Universal Service Administrative Company before enrolling with MTA. To learn how to apply or to see if you qualify for the program, give us a call or go to www.lifelinesupport.org for further information.
The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) expired on May 31, 2024. The program stopped accepting new applications and enrollments on February 7, 2024, and recipients received their final fully funded ACP benefit on their April bill. To help ease this transition, MTA provided a $25 credit in May.
Despite efforts by many customers, Congress did not act to extend the ACP, resulting in its end for all Internet and mobile providers nationwide. MTA appreciates the advocacy of our customers and recognizes the ACP's vital role in keeping over 23 million U.S. families connected. We will continue to communicate our concerns to the government regarding the impacts of this change on our customers.
