MTA and our contractors have rights to access the designated utility easements typically located within a strip of property running along the street, the sidewalk, the rear lot line, or between two lots. If the easement is within a fenced-in yard, crews will need your help accessing this area.
Our crews make every effort to minimize the impact to properties. Once construction is complete and weather permits, MTA will restore the grade in areas where digging occurred.
Markers and paint need to remain in place until the construction project is complete. Our crews will remove these when they are no longer needed.
A fiber connection provides faster upload and download speeds than our traditional copper network. Fiber never degrades and is more resistant to weather and other environmental factors, delivering unparalleled connection reliability.
Fiber capability can help your home stand out from the rest. High-speed fiber broadband services, with 1 Gbps or higher download speeds, can add more than 3% to the value of an average home in the US, according to a recent study. That is the same increase as adding a half bathroom!
There are two things required before you can transition to fiber:
1. The new fiber line being run to your home
2. The fiber network in your neighborhood being turned on.
An MTA technician will need to visit your home to route the new connection inside your house to complete the transition to fiber once these steps are complete. To ensure you are one of the first in line to be scheduled when service is available complete the form above.
You can continue to use the existing copper services if you wish. You will be notified when MTA retires the copper network in your neighborhood and transferring to fiber becomes mandatory.
While the MTA technician is routing the fiber inside your home your service will be temporarily unavailable to complete the transition. The technician will ensure all your services are up and running on the new connection prior to leaving.
