Battery Backup Power For Home Phone Service

For many years, your home phone would allow you to stay connected to emergency voice services during a power outage. However, many of today’s advanced home phone services require backup battery power to continue functioning during an outage.

To avoid a disruption of home voice service during an outage – and to maintain the ability to connect to 911 emergency services – MTA offers you the option of purchasing a backup battery unit for your home phone. Members can also choose to purchase and install their own battery backup device.

What Your Backup Unit Can and Can’t Do

MTA has sourced a backup battery unit for telephone service that allows you to continue to use your home voice services during a power outage. The unit that MTA makes available to members is not the only backup battery unit on the market and is not the only backup power solution available. A backup battery unit is entirely optional and is not required for any service MTA offers provided commercial electric power is available. However, without a backup battery unit or alternate backup source such as a generator, you may not be able to make any calls, including emergency calls to 911, in instances where commercial electric power is interrupted. Members are encouraged to review their individual situations and make an informed decision regarding their backup power needs

You can purchase a backup battery unit directly through MTA for $330.99. The Precision Power Li-36 Micro UPS 24 hour Kit is rated for all residential optical network terminals (ONTs) and will provide 24+ hours of on demand battery backup.
