MTA exists so that its member-owners have efficient and effective solutions to their communication needs, including reliability, competitive pricing, and superior customer service.
Matanuska Telephone Association (MTA) is a member-owned cooperative founded in 1953 to bring telephone service to rural South-Central Alaska. Today, MTA delivers some of the most advanced communications products available in the marketplace, including Voice, Internet, Wireless, Business Solutions, Directory and Digital TV services. The MTA service area covers over 10,000 square miles and spans the area from Eagle River’s Hiland Road to Clear Air Force Base.
MTA stores are located in Eagle River, Palmer, and Wasilla, Alaska. Through its operating and capital budgets, MTA contributes tens of millions of dollars into the communities it serves and employs over 350 people.
As a cooperative, MTA was formed to serve its member-owners. The benefits of patronizing a cooperative are:
Anyone who uses a co-op's services and willingly accepts the responsibilities of membership, is eligible to become a member.
One Member, One Vote.
Co-ops are based on democratic principles. Members elect a board of directors and vote on specific issues.
Limited Return on Investment.
The purpose of a cooperative is to provide a service to its members, not to make a profit.
Surplus is Returned to the Members.
