Directory Advertising

People Have It — With the majority of local businesses advertising in it, the MTA Directory has the highest possession figures. Over 83% of residents in Eagle River and the Mat-Su have the MTA Directory.

People Use It — An effective, economical way to reach more customers. Over 96% who have the MTA Directory, use it to contact an advertiser.

Volume — 77,000 copies of the directory are distributed year-round to residential and business customers throughout the heart of Alaska including not just Palmer and Wasilla, but all the communities from Eagle River to Anderson.

Extra Exposure With The Online Version — For no additional cost, advertising in the printed book automatically appears in the online version at www.mtadirectory.com.

In addition, individual web site and email addresses that appear in the directory are automatically activated as hyperlinks, free of charge. To make your business location easy to find, physical addresses are automatically activated as Google maps.

In the "map view" and "list view" versions of the online directory, advertisers can purchase internet ads with preferential placement, for a small monthly fee. The MTA online directory is receiving more than 300,000 hits annually.

Location, Location, Location — The directory has business and residential listings for cities throughout the Mat-Su and Eagle River, plus Fairbanks, Fort Richardson, Elmendorf, Anchorage, and all those communities south along Turnagain Arm.

It's Smart And Fun To Use — In addition to listings, the MTA Directory includes an informative community section, helpful information pages, comprehensive maps, and an Internet guide that gives local businesses a dedicated section where they can promote their electronic addresses to computer-savvy consumers.

Menu Guide And Banner Ads — The menu guide offers businesses an opportunity to promote their featured dishes, pricing, location, and hours. Popular and successful banner ads are available in the white pages.

Statistics cited from the 2009 Ver-A-Fast study.

Customize Your White Page Listing

Omit Address — Remove the address from your directory listing.

Non-Listed — Omit your number from the telephone directory, but not from directory assistance information (411).

Non-Published — Omit your number from both the telephone directory and directory assistance information (411).

Vacation versus Disconnect — If you disconnect your telephone prior to the directory “close date” (late December of each year), your number will not appear in the following year's directory. To assure that your telephone number remains in the directory, you can put your account on vacation instead of disconnecting.

Cross Reference Listings — Train your customers to remember the new name of your business by creating a cross reference in the white pages.

Stop Telemarketers

Get on the national Do-Not-Call registry to discourage commercial telemarketers from calling your residential and wireless numbers. Call 1-888-382-1222 from the phone number you wish to register (for TTY, call 1-866-290-4236). Or register by Internet at http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/donotcall/

How Did They Get My Phone Number?
MTA does not release or sell customer telephone numbers, but the information listed in the MTA Directory is part of the public record. Telemarketers use phone books, even old ones, to get phone numbers.

There are other, less common ways telemarketers get phone numbers. According to eHow:

  • • Charities you’ve supported may share your number.
  • • Where you’ve applied for credit may resell your information.
  • • A random dialing machine may stumble upon your number.
  • • Information you provide when entering a contest, can be sold.
